John James CBE was passionate about helping children to achieve their ambitions and the Foundation has adopted his ethos as one of its overarching goals. That is why the Foundation became involved with @Bristol when it was set up in 1999 as a millenium project, and we have supported the institution ever since, including its evolution to become We The Curious in 2017. To date the Foundation has given over £1 million to the science centre and education charity.

This year we have committed to support the STEM Explorers Schools Program so that even more of the City's children can become curious about science. Our funding will help to overcome barriers to transformative experiences for children from Bristol's most excluded and disadvantaged communities. Over the next three years our funding will mean that 6,600 children from primary schools where more than 40% of children are eligible for Free School Meals will be given fully funded access to the STEM Explorers Schools Program. The schools will be supported at every stage including transportation, operational support, resources and entry to We The Curious. The focus is on Year 3 pupils and the program will help them to transition from KS1 to KS2.

The children are able to get creative and play with science and explore different ideas and topics. The day will include: How My Body Works; Launch It! exploring forces and explosions; Light Fantastic, a show that considers what light is and where it comes from; and the fully immersive Planetarium Show.  John James Bristol Foundation are enabling Bristol's children that would otherwise miss out, to experience this exciting learning opportunity.
