Capital grants: Playgrounds and outdoor spaces
Building on last year's successful initiative to award capital grants for playgrounds, outdoor spaces and play equipment, the John James Bristol Foundation is again accepting applications from state primary schools in Bristol for grants to improve outdoor play facilities for their pupils. Examples of the grants awarded last year can be seen here.
Priority will be given to schools with higher numbers of pupils with pupil premium and/ or who can demonstrate the greatest need. Awards last year were upwards of £975 with the majority being around £5,000.​​

A copy of a valid quotation must be included (ie. less than 30 days old). In the case of new playground equipment, confirmation must be provided that an appropriate survey has been undertaken to ensure the project is deliverable and all costs accounted for.

The School, or school community, must contribute at least 10% of the total amount requested. We hope to support as many schools as possible and so those that have already been fundraising and are near to their target will be looked upon favourably.

In the case of playgrounds or enhancements to outdoor spaces, the work must be undertaken in time for the start of the new academic year.​​

​Applications will not be considered from schools that have received funding towards a capital project or equipment from the Foundation within the last five years.

The maximum amount that a school can apply for is £25,000.

Applications will only be accepted from state schools in Bristol (ie LAE 801).

Applications can only be submitted by the Head or a member of the senior management team on behalf of the school.
The deadline for applications to be submitted is Monday 13th April. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 15th May. Payments of grants in respect of playgrounds, or enhancements to outdoor spaces, will be made in July once confirmation has been received that a contractor has been appointed. Payments of grants in respect of play equipment will be made as soon as confirmation received that an order has been placed.
