Joan Johnson, Chair
Joan is the eldest daughter of John James and she worked alongside him for a large proportion of her life. He appointed her as Chair of the Foundation to continue his legacy and ensure it supports the City, and people of Bristol in accordance with his original vision. Joan has lived the greater part of her life in Bristol and in the past, has personally been involved with other local charitable organisations.
John Haworth, Vice Chair
John trained as a Doctor at Guy’s Hospital Medical School London and moved to Bristol in 1976. He is a retired Consultant Radiologist and held several management positions for the North Bristol NHS Trust including being Head of Specialty for Radiology.
David Johnson
David is the son of the Foundation’s Chair, Joan Johnson and a grandson of John James. David was born and educated in Bristol. He has travelled widely and was a Trustee of a Buddhist centre prior to designing an award winning ecological house in South Wales. He now works as a life coach and until recently, facilitated men's circles in his local prison.
Elizabeth Chambers
Liz Chambers is the daughter of Joan Johnson and granddaughter of John James. Liz was educated in Bristol and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young in London and then worked in Hong Kong and Australia.
She subsequently qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser and now works part-time with a children’s charity involved in the healthcare industry.​
John Evans
John was born in Bristol and, apart from 3 years absence, has spent all of his life living and working in the Bristol and North Somerset areas. He worked for a major clearing bank for 34 years and then retrained and is now a Chartered Physiotherapist.
Peter Goodwin
Peter read law at Oxford and started acting for John James as a Partner at Freshfields. He later moved to Bircham Dyson Bell and continued to act for John James until his death. Peter is now retired but remains a Trustee of two other charitable trusts.
Andrew Jardine
Andrew Jardine was born in Bristol and still lives in the City running a number of business interests. He is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Management Accountant and has an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management.
Julia Norton
Julia was born in Bristol. After University in Birmingham, she returned to Bristol to train and qualify as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand. Julia is a past Chief Executive of the Foundation, retiring in 2017. Moving to Berkshire in 2018, Julia was appointed a Trustee during that year. She volunteers as a Licenced Lay Minister in her local Church, and in that capacity she works with young people and the elderly both in Church and outside.
Nicola Parker
Nicola read medicine and moved to Bristol in 2005 when she started working as a Consultant Rheumatologist at North Bristol NHS Trust. She works under her maiden name of Dr Nicola Minaur.
