Southmead Hospital Charity

Southmead Hospital Charity is on a mission to help stroke survivors and patients with other neurological conditions regain their independence and mobility. The charity is fundraising for a highly specialist Walkerbot which uses robotic limbs and virtual reality exercises to revolutionise stroke and neuro rehabilitation at Southmead Hospital.

John James Bristol Foundation has pledged £40,000 towards the £428,660 needed to buy the groundbreaking piece of equipment that will help patients learn to walk again. It allows patients to take thousands of consistent steps per session, compared to the dozens they’d take during traditional rehabilitation.

Southmead Hospital will be one of only two NHS hospitals in the UK with this groundbreaking equipment, cementing their position as a Stroke Centre of Excellence for the South West.
