Bristol Bike Project
Bristol Bike Project is a member-led cooperative, repairing and re-homing bicycles within their community. The Access Bikes programme offers a free bicycle to anyone involuntarily unemployed for six months, or unable to work, many of whom are asylum seekers or people with long-term health problems. Other programmes include Fix-A-Bike and Social Cycle.
The Foundation is funding Social Cycle workshops which are weekly sessions for adults at risk of social isolation, who may be struggling with their mental health or feeling lonely and anxious. Participants work with the workshop staff and are supported to learn new skills in a hands-on, do-it-together atmosphere to repair bikes. The Social Cycle workshops help to encourage a sense of belonging to the Bike Project community and satisfaction from undertaking meaningful work that benefits other people.
