JumpStart Food & Fitness

JumpStart Kids run free, high-energy fitness and nutrition after-school sessions for over 100 children living in four inner-city tower blocks in the most socio-economic deprived areas of Bristol.
John James Bristol Foundation has awarded funding for the past five years to enable Jumpstart to run games, activities and challenges to help tackle the serious health issues that result from health inequalities. Many of these children live in damp and cramped flats with little access to outside space. The weekly programmes help to combat mental health issues, teach essential life skills and promote fitness and friendships.
The sessions take place on the green spaces outside their homes, removing barriers such as transport or need for parents to accompany them to an alternative venue. Food education happens during shared dinner time sessions, bringing children together to cook and enjoy healthy, low-cost meals.
