Arnos Vale Cemetry
Arnos Vale is a spectacular 45 acre Victorian Garden Cemetery in the heart of Bristol. Not only is it a working Cemetery but was constituted as a heritage, nature, and educational charity in 2007. The site welcomes 500,000 visitors a year including those grieving their loved ones, people exploring the Discovery Trail or visitors simply ambling through its many enchanting pathways.

The Foundation recently awarded a grant towards the refurbishment of the toilet block, an essential part of a visit to Arnos Vale, whatever the reason for visiting. Over the past few years more and more public toilets have been removed and Arnos Vale has one of the only public toilets in the area which people can use without having to make a purchase.
The toilets are particularly important for the many events that attract an older audience such as funerals and wakes. Many people visiting Arnos Vale including disabled people, carers, and older people plan their lives around access to toilets. Sometimes they don’t drink when they go out to avoid needing to find a toilet that’s suitable for their needs. Greater access to toilets means greater access to community and social activities.
The unique heritage site is free to enter and has a cafe and shop, guided nature and heritage tours, art classes and volunteering opportunities. It’s a special place, where communities come together.
