Project MAMA
Project MAMA supports migrant women in Bristol during pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. The charity addresses the structural inequalities these parents face, such as being 3 times more likely to die in childbirth, and 4 times more likely to experience postnatal depression than UK-born women.
Project MAMA’s team is made up of experienced midwives, doulas, and support workers, including those from migrant backgrounds.
The Foundation has provided funding for the Mother Companion service which provides refugee and migrant women with vital, holistic support. Mother Companions help navigate an unfamiliar maternity system as well as addressing social isolation, and help support women to build community links as they transition to motherhood.
