In 2025 the Foundation received xxx applications and made xxx awards totalling £2.4 million.
LOCAL
The Foundation has it's roots in Bristol and was set up by John James, a local business man and philanthropist interested in education, health and the elderly. Today our remit is wider but the focus is still on applications that support Bristol residents and Bristol organisations, BS1 to BS14.
CIVIC
John James was motivated by a strong sense of civic pride and wanting to give back to the City that treated him so well. In line with his principles, we continue to monitor and respond to the ever changing demands and opportunities presented by this great City, so that we can continue his legacy.
Sustainable
It is vital that we manage the John James Endowment with great care and consideration. That is why we prioritise projects that are sustainable and have lasting impact. Capital projects, input to youth schemes and communities, or skills building to help people live independent and productive lives.
