Friends of Jubilee Pool
Jubilee Pool and Gym is a much loved community facility in South Bristol. In 2022, it was threatened with closure and Friends of Jubilee Pool, a group of local volunteers, was established to save the Pool. It is Bristol's first community swimming pool and is used by at least 3,500 people of all ages, genders, ethnicities and abilities each year.

The pool building had been significantly neglected prior to its transfer to the community. As a part of its refurbishment, John James Bristol Foundation awarded a £50,000 grant for the installation of a new Air Handing Unit to manage air flow, temperature and humidity, and reduce utility costs. The Foundation has also provided additional funding to urgently repair the aging flat roofs which was causing internal damage.

Jubilee Pool and Gym is registered ‘dementia friendly’ and also provides accessible swims, parent and baby sessions, swimming lessons for children of all ages and for refugees and asylum seekers. The Pool is used by 6 schools, 5 community groups and one special school. Its services are open to all but are particularly important to some of the most vulnerable and marginalised members of the community.
