Borderlands

Borderlands is a Bristol based charity supporting refugees, asylum seekers and those with insecure immigration status since 2011.

The Foundation has awarded Borderlands with an annual grant for the past seven years. The grant goes towards the running costs of the Welcome Centre - a safe, trusted and well-known space for asylum seekers and refugees to get food and support, make friends and establish belonging in their new home in Bristol. The Welcome Centre is based at the Assisi Centre in Easton, in one of Bristol's most diverse and disadvantaged areas, and is open 3 days a week.

In 2023-24, the Welcome Centre supported over 700 asylum seekers and refugees with around 150 people visiting each week). The latest survey showed that 100% said they had made new friends, 50% felt more confident speaking English and 100% had learnt new skills. For those allowed to work, 67% felt more confident looking for a job.

We are proud to give our support to a local charity improving the wellbeing and life chances for those seeking refuge in our city.
