John James started making direct grants to secondary schools in 1978 to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and to fund enrichment opportunities for young people across the City.

Our aim is to promote activities which inspire and raise aspirations and help young people to achieve their potential and support their personal, social, emotional and physical development. We currently provide grants for Award programmes at 31 secondary schools for them to use in accordance with their ethos and culture.

We are currently reviewing the applications from primary schools in respect of Capital grants - outdoor playground or play equipment. We will let schools know the outcome of their application week commencing 12th May.

Children & young people

We support projects and organisations which enrich the lives and well-being of disadvantaged or vulnerable children and young people in Bristol. The organisations we work with inspire and raise the aspirations of young people, giving them confidence and motivation to take on new challenges and to believe in themselves.
