Thank Yous

Following a donation to Bristol Amateur Operatic Society, the Foundation was able to purchase almost 400 tickets for their April performance of ‘Kiss Me Kate’. These tickets were sent out to elderly Bristol residents, who attended the performance at the Victoria Rooms. From the feedback we have received it is clear that they found it a fantastic performance as well as a valuable social event.

‘Thank you so much for the tickets – my friend and I really enjoyed the performance – once more it was a lovely afternoon out. Thank you for giving me the chance to see the production.’

‘Brilliant show at the Victoria Rooms on Saturday. It was a very colourful performance and the cast must have worked extremely hard.’

‘Thank you for the two tickets for Kiss Me Kate. I am very pleased; there is no entertainment here, even at Christmas. I am 86 years old. It is very lonely.’

A donation of £300 was made to St. Mary's Players in February, enabling the Foundation to distribute 50 tickets for the Saturday matinee performance of 'Children of Eden' at the Redgrave Theatre. The tickets were sent to elderly Bristol residents through the Foundation's Theatre Ticket scheme. The show was obviously well-received, as illustrated by the letters of thanks from attendees.

'What a wonderful show! - to say I was blown away would be an understatement!'

'From start to finish the performance and cast was wonderful. Once again, thank-you so much.'

St Mary's Church Shirehampton recently received a commitment of £2,000pa for three years, towards the costs of running a financial advice service and support for the elderly and disadvantaged. In their letter of thanks they write:

'We are delighted, with your help, to be able to offer this much needed service to those who need it and feel blessed that the Foundation puts so wonderfully into practice it's mission statement of 'Remembering the past - Reaching to the future - Giving back to Bristol'.

This year the Foundation's annual Christmas Party Scheme included 166 clubs, receiving a total of £33,297 towards the costs of running Christmas Parties for their elderly or disabled members.
The Parties, which are held all over Bristol during the Festive season represent a real treat for those involved, as some of the feedback has highlighted.

'Thank you for your donation - it helps for us all to have a really good day out.'

'On behalf of our Senior Circle I would like to thank you most sincerely for your continued support at Christmas time. We look forward to planning our Christmas activities and appreciate the help your Foundation gives us.'

In May of this year the Foundation donated £2,400 to Bristol Light Opera Club, enabling the purchase of 400 tickets for B.L.O.C.’s November show, the Wizard of Oz at the Bristol Hippodrome. The Foundation sent these tickets out to elderly Bristol residents, who, judging from the feedback we have received, had a wonderful time.

‘My friend and I enjoyed the Wizard of Oz immensely. It was an excellent show and the cast were brilliant, as were the costumes. We are very fortunate to have B.L.O.C. and long may they continue to perform for us.’

‘Absolutely brilliant. The players, you couldn’t fault, the stage effects were great – they deserve an award.’

The dog, Toto, received a special mention in many of the letters!
